FdA in Creative Music Production and Business – Statement

Following an eighteen-year collaboration with the University of Westminster, Community Music Ltd. has taken the decision to close their Higher Education Programme from the end of December 2023, and transfer its Foundation Degree in Creative Music Production and Business students to the University of Westminster, who validate the course.

The University of Westminster have facilitated a transfer option for students to continue their education, joining the Music faculty of the University, where they will access world-class tuition, industry and academic resources, along with pastoral and academic support structures that are second to none. This creates a unique opportunity for Community Music’s cohort to be part of the most respected and one of the longest-standing commercial music degrees in the UK.

In bringing the validation partnership to a close, Community Music has taken the decision   to focus on developing new structured access initiatives through their programmes targeting young people and communities across London.

Community Music could not have asked for a more supportive validation partner, and we extend our gratitude and thanks to the University of Westminster whose guidance and support has been constant.

For students currently enrolled on the FdA in Creative Music Production and Business, their educational journey remains our top priority. Both Community Music and the University of Westminster are committed to supporting current students through this time of transition. We will ensure that all necessary information and mechanisms are in place, for students to make informed decisions that are right for them, their education and development.

As Community Music Ltd. moves forward, we will continue to operate through our well-established community engagement projects and short courses. Our dedication to removing barriers and providing access to the highest quality music and technical training for everyone remains steadfast.

Statement from the University of Westminster:

The University of Westminster has been validating the Community Music Foundation degree in Creative Music Production and Business since 2007. While we are sad that the partnership is coming to an end, Our top priority is ensuring that students from the Community Music Cohort  can continue and complete their studies. Community Music students will have the opportunity to join Westminster  at our Harrow campus from January 2024 and we have put a number of support initiatives in place to aid their transition .We are looking forward to welcoming them to our Westminster community.
