Create 20x20, a project run by young people, for young people in Haringey and the surrounding areas. Focusing mainly on Music Production and Media but topics being guided by the young people, we have a brand new, fully equipped training room ready to facilitate the sessions. We have planned for some special guests to come and pass on their knowledge and describe their experiences to the young people to give them an insight into the working world of a creative.
Community Music are excited to be partnering with Homes for Haringey & the London borough of Haringey with the project being funded by Youth Music in order to run this free project for people aged 11-18 who live or study in Haringey and the surrounding area. As a crime prevention programme for young people both on the estate and in the area, the project will work with the Homes for Haringey in helping us to foster and develop opportunities for young people to be creative in a safe environment away from the street.
A typical session for Music Production, we would usually have around 6 - 10 young people who want to learn how to create their own beats and those who want to rap over the top of those beats, we keep the sessions fairly loose, so that young people choose what they would like to work on in the session, rather than us dictating, though we guide the session so that we get some content from the work created.
A typical session for Media, we are able to deliver sessions on editing in photoshop, podcasting and DJing and social media training on how to use social media to promote yourself.
The Program takes place at Project 2020 (Off Road Hub), Ground Floor Kenneth Robbins House, Northumberland Park N17 0QA on Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 16:00 - 18:45.
To find out about the project in more depth, check out our interview with project manager, Michelle Myrie where we ask her some questions about the project.
