CM offers a variety of training programmes which focus on creative production, arts and music leader training and performance and composition. Courses are either part time or full time, and we offer programmes in both further and higher education.

FDA: Creative Music Production and Business

Length: 2 years

Status: Full time

Level: 4 & 5

This innovative foundation degree in Creative Music Production and Business is a two year full-time course that firstly explores the different facets of music production and the music industry, and then goes on to focus on business development and career planning.

It is aimed at students who want to gain in-depth creative music production skills and then go on to focus on how they can channel these skills into their career and business development. Students must have a good prior of knowledge in music production or general music.

Students will follow a varied timetable of music production, musicianship, music history, music business and work-related modules, and gain valuable skills and knowledge essential for use in the music production industry.

Application Procedure

Go to www.UCAS.com and click on ‘apply’. Fill in the application form as directed. The course code for this course is WN32 and the institution code is W50. You can search for this course code on the UCAS web site for more details. Write as much information about yourself and your musical background on your form as possible. This is your chance to tell us about yourself and why you want to do this course. Contact CM for further guidance and info. Applications should be submitted by January 15th, but late applications will be welcomed until the end of June.

Arts & Music Leader Training Programme

Length: 12 weeks per course

Status: Evenings

The Arts & Music Leader Training Programme is a unique opportunity for those with a background in Music and/or arts  to gain valuable knowledge and experience of teaching and working within a community music setting. The courses explore the different areas of teaching and learning, repertoire and curriculum models, Search & Reflect, and the community arts movement. The courses are aimed at those who want to develop a career in community music and arts. Those who complete the courses find work different settings including schools and colleges as a visiting teacher, in community music/arts groups or companies and a variety of other arenas.

The courses:

Arts, Community and the Entrepreneur
• Learn how to design an effective arts/music project in the community
• Negotiate successful partnerships and develop fundraising strategies
• Explore the history and context of community arts.

Learning and Teaching Theory
• Gain an understanding of the key principles of creative learning and teaching
• Learn how to teach and lead confidently and effectively in a variety of different settings
• Engage in ongoing reflection on and development of your practice.

Learning and Teaching Practice
• Develop and teach your own unique workshop pieces
• Learn how to plan and write a series of lessons into a ‘scheme of work’.

Successful completion of both Learning & teaching theory and practice courses leads to PTLLS City and Guilds 7303 teaching qualification for the life long learning sector

Search and Reflect
• CM founder John Steven’s legendary improvisation workshop
• Explore the fundamentals of music through an inclusive, participatory approach that caters for all levels of musical experience.


All sessions start week beginning 12th Jan 2009 and last for 12 weeks
Search and Reflect will be on Monday evening.
Learning and Teaching on Tuesday evening.
Arts Community and the Entrepreneur on Wednesday evening.
