CM launch “Greenshoots” at Rough Trade East
CM are proud to announce a new monthly showcase “Greenshoots” for local young musicians at Rough Trade East, Dray Walk, off Brick Lane. The showcase will be on the first Saturday of the month at 3pm starting on the 2nd May and will give young bands the opportunity to perform in front of a store full of discerning punters. Rough Trade East is the latest extension of the legendary Rough Trade brand, opening at a time when record stores have been closing, Rough Trade has ploughed it’s own furrow based on quality, reputation and great service. Bands that have played at Rough Trade East include: Lightspeed Champion, Sebastien Tellier, Alela Diane, Fleet Foxes, The Kills, Stereo Mc's, Noah And The Whale, Roots Manuva, The Horrors And Kate Nash.
“The celestial jukebox that exists online is a fantastic thing, but you need something to edit the mass of information – a level of synthesis, something to tell you what’s good and what’s not. That’s not a personal opinion, that’s something we’ve learnt from being at the heart of the industry and speaking to people face to face for the last 30 years. That ability to synthesize is pretty peerless in terms of our authority and recommendation, from Rough Trade’s point of view.”
Stephen Godfroy, Rough Trade East
CM will also be launching a new project called Sound Source based at Rough Trade every Saturday Morning, where local young people will create their own fanzine and get the chance to programme and promote live events throughout the borough. This will give the local youth music scene a voice as well as giving a platform and support for the music journalists, media mogals and entrepreneurs of tomorrow.
The showcase and Sound Source are funded by The Arts Council and are part of Find Your Talent.
This new partnership adds to CM’s existing local youth programme which includes: Music Space Live! - giving young people the opportunity to develop performance skills in front of an audience of their Peers; Underage - CM co-host a stage programmed by young people showcasing local music; Music Space - rehearsal, tuition and studio time for local bands, musicians and technologists.
