Tower Hamlets Partnership Links With Underage Festival
London, June 10th 2008 – The next Tower Hamlets Talent (THT), the free event that showcases the best of East London’s under-18 music scene will be on Tuesday July 22nd from 6pm-8pm at The Brady Arts Centre, Hanbury Street, London E1, featuring 8 performances and the chance to win a pair of tickets to Underage Festival!
THT celebrates the music that teenagers make in bands and as individuals, and provides an opportunity to showcase live and recorded music.
The first event, held in May 2008, saw performances covering styles as diverse as Death Metal, Indie, RnB and Bangra. From now on the events will happen twice a term.
THT has built on the THAMES Rocks! gigs pioneered by the Tower Hamlets Arts and Music Education Service (THAMES) and is run by CM and THAMES in partnership with The Arts Council England, Underage Festival, The Brady Arts Centre, Tower Hamlets Summer University, ‘A’ Team Arts and Tower Hamlets Council.
THT aims to be the centre of a culture of music making among young people in Tower Hamlets, supporting music making through quality live music opportunities linked to artist development and education programmes that teach young people musicianship, help them to work in groups, rehearse and produce music as well as gaining accreditations in informal settings.
CM, who this year celebrate their 25th anniversary as the leading London community music organisation will be showcasing the best of THT at The Music Space stage at Underage Festival in collaboration with Tower Hamlets Arts and Events. The link with Underage Festival provides clear progression for artists that excel at the regular live events, and feeds into CM’s broader Artist Development programme which includes a not for profit record label, business support, continuing professional training and links with other major live events including Glastonbury Festival. Musicspace is also the name of the companion project run by the same partners which supports musicians in developing their music through structured rehearsal facilities and mentoring.
Gawain Hewitt, Artist Development Manager at CM said, “As long time champions of new music in London THT represents a new format for developing the artists of tomorrow through proactive and inclusive support. We believe strongly that music can help break down cultural barriers and with the negative press that young people are getting at the moment, this shows them at their creative best. The Music Space stage at Underage Festival will feature a mix of new local teenage artists playing together with artists booked by the festival and Goldielocks, one of the success stories of our Artist Development programme.”
In Partnership with The Arts Council England, CM, Underage Festival, Tower Hamlets Arts and Music Education Service (THAMES), The Brady Arts Centre, Tower Hamlets Summer University and Tower Hamlets Council.
