CM offers a variety of training programmes which focus on creative production, arts and music leader training and performance and composition. Courses are either part time or full time, and we offer programmes in both further and higher education.

FDA: Creative Music Production and Business

Length: 2 years

Status: Full time

Level: 4 & 5

This innovative foundation degree in Creative Music Production and Business is a two year full-time course that firstly explores the different facets of music production and the music industry, and then goes on to focus on business development and career planning.

It is aimed at students who want to gain in-depth creative music production skills and then go on to focus on how they can channel these skills into their career and business development. Students must have a good prior of knowledge in music production or general music.

Students will follow a varied timetable of music production, musicianship, music history, music business and work-related modules, and gain valuable skills and knowledge essential for use in the music production industry.

Arts & Music Leader Training Programme (PTLLS)

Length: 12 weeks per course

Status: Evenings

The Arts & Music Leader Training Programme is a unique opportunity for those with a background in Music and/or arts  to gain valuable knowledge and experience of teaching and working within a community music setting. The programme explores the different areas of teaching and learning and repertoire and curriculum models and aims to provide a sound foundation in teaching and learning within a community arts setting. The programme is aimed at those who want to develop a career in community music and arts leadership. Those who complete the courses find work different settings including schools and colleges as a visiting teacher, in community music/arts groups or companies and a variety of other arenas.

The courses:

Learning and Teaching Theory - 12 weeks beginning September 2010
• Gain an understanding of the key principles of creative learning and teaching
• Learn how to teach and lead confidently and effectively in a variety of different settings
• Engage in ongoing reflection on and development of your practice.

Students can take this course alone or go on to take the Learning & Teaching Practice course to gain the full PTLLS qualification.

Learning and Teaching Practice - 12 weeks beginning January 2011
• Develop and teach your own unique workshop pieces
• Learn how to plan and write a series of lessons into a ‘scheme of work’.

The Learning and Teaching Practice course can only be taken if the Learning and Teaching Theory course has been completed first.

Successful completion of both Learning & teaching theory and practice courses leads to PTLLS City and Guilds 7303 teaching qualification for the life long learning sector

Sessions will be every Tuesday evening from 6pm - 9pm.
