Company Profile
CM, formerly called ‘Community Music’, is a vibrant and dynamic organisation that has been a trailblazer in the community music sector since it was established in 1983.
CM was founded to create new musical opportunities for young people of all cultures, backgrounds and musical interest. It does this by providing music training and education, artist development and business support for young people and professional musicians and by creating new models of learning and support open to a wider audience than would traditionally have access to further and higher education.
The fundamental aim of CM is to provide innovative training, education and performance opportunities for musicians of all ages, which celebrates colour, risk, quality, fusion and technology.

CM is committed to working with those who would not otherwise have easy access to these facilities through its threefold development strategy:
Education
Artist Development (providing practical support to young musicians) and
Business Creation (supporting newly established small creative businesses)
Established by John Stevens and Dave O’Donnell, the project has trained over 1000 professional musicians, many of whom have gone on to work in higher and further education, in community music or pursued independent careers in the music industry.
CM has set up and/or facilitated other projects such as Community Music East, Community Music Wales, MIDI Music Company, London Arts Training Consortium, Asian Dub Foundation Education (ADFED), Musicians in Focus and
Rising Tide at Ocean.
