Frequent Questions

Who can study at CM?

Anyone can apply to study at CM. No previous qualifications are required, but relevant experience will be essential. Students should be 18 years of age or over for degree level tuition. There is no upper age limit. Our youth programme is for young people aged 13 – 19.

What courses are available?

1. Foundation Degree in Creative Music Production and Business – a two year full time course which provides students with industry standard music production skills and then goes on to enable them to exploit these skills as they set up their own small business and find their own place within the music industry.

2. Arts & Music Leader Training Programme – a programme of short courses which train artists and musicians/producers to work in a variety of music education settings, including music projects, schools and colleges, youth clubs, and community groups.

3. A varied youth programme including instrumental tuition, band rehearsal projects and live events

How much do courses cost?

The Foundation Degree in Creative Music Production and Business costs £5750 per year for two years, a saving of up to £3500 on standard course fees.

The Arts & Music Leader Training Programme costs £597. 

The youth programme is usually free.

Can I get any financial support?

All course fees for the FdA: Creative Music Production and Business can be covered by a full loan from the government. These are not repayable until you have completed the course and are earning more than £21,000 per year.

You may also be eligible to receive a maintenance loan or grant, depending on your personal circumstances, which you can use towards your living costs.

How do I apply?

If you are interested in the Foundation Degree in Creative Music Production and Business, applicants must be made through Guidance on how to apply through UCAS can be obtained from the site, but CM would be glad to offer support and advice on completing the application should you need it.

If you are interested in the Arts & Music Leader Training Programme you should complete an application form, or alternatively you can contact CM by phone or email and ask for a form to be sent to your home or work address. Our contact details are at the bottom of this sheet.

What happens next?

For our degree level tuition, after you apply for a course your application form will be read by our short-listing team, and if suitable, you will be asked to attend an interview. You will be interviewed by the course leader and will be given an opportunity to see the facilities, ask questions and meet other applicants. After the interview, we will contact you in writing within one month to let you know if you have gained a placed or not.

For our youth programme and Arts and Music Leader Training programme your application will be considered by the course leader, who will then notify you if you have been offered a place or not.

What other opportunities are there at CM?

CM places great importance on offering continuous support, not short term training. All our courses are complete programmes of learning which support and help you as much as possible to find work or further study at the end of the course.

Alongside our courses, CM offers a full programme of support and development projects for those students which show the most dedication, focus and enthusiasm. Our other projects include a Business Support programme, for new small businesses who need help to get themselves established and working successfully, an Artist Development programme which supports artists and musicians in developing their music and career, a diverse live events programme which offers young people the chance to perform in major venues, local events and festivals, and more.
